In part Earp wanted the Council and particularly Mayor Rick Rolle, who was championing the take- over bid, to know that; "We incorporated this Town for local control and there is no more local control than having a locally elected Fire Board of Directors and ninety percent of the firefighters living in our Town". After hearing comment from Earp and many other speakers the Council voted unanimously to drop the Fire Board takeover and not discuss it in the future unless requested to do so by the Fire Board itself.
